Hop Around in Grandview


The Short North is famous for its Saturday Gallery Hops, but did you know that Grandview has an art hop as well? The event takes place this Saturday, July 28 from 4 to 9pm. Businesses located in the area primarily along Grandview Avenue between 1st and 5th Avenues along with locations just off of 1st Avenue and 3rd Avenues will participate.

Hot Ribs & Cool Jazz


Enjoy Jazz music and red-hot ribs at the 28th annual Jazz & Rib Fest! The festival will take place at Bicentennial and Genoa Parks downtown starting July 20 and running through Sunday, July 22. Two different stages will feature local and national Jazz acts.

Those attending the festival can vote for their favorite rib makers for the People’s Choice award.

It’s Only A Flesh Wound!


Be entertained by Singing knights, killer rabbits, rude Frenchmen and damsels in distress! The CAPA Summer Movie Series will feature Monty Python and the Holy Grail at the Ohio Theatre today at 11pm, following the Bogart classic Treasure of Sierra Madre.

Day-of-show tickets to individual films are $3.50 and go on sale one hour before show time at the Ohio Theatre Kiosk. Senior citizen tickets are available for $3. All tickets are general admission and seating is on a first-come/first-served basis.

Lancaster Fest


The Lancaster Festival starts today, July 19 and runs through July 28. This is the 23rd season for the music and arts festival which features 70 artists and events during 10 days, most with free admission. Churches, parks, fairgrounds, city streets, campus venues, historic buildings and the local mall are just some of the locations where the arts are presented to the community.

Highlights include Saturday pops concerts, chamber music, arts education and family/children’s events. Artists include the Eroica Trio and Jo Dee Messina.

Crazy Quilting


Hey crafty ladies! The Central Ohio Quilt Shop Hop will take place starting tomorrow until July 28th.

What is a shop hop? A shop hop is an organized event that gives you an opportunity to visit all 12 of our Central Ohio quilt shops within a certain period of time. Each shop you visit will stamp your passport and after the event there will be a drawing for prizes. Each shop will be offering a special for passport holders only. A limited edition, full color quilt book Hearts & Ribbons, featuring unique projects from all 12 shops is included with purchase. Passports can be purchased at participating shops for $15 or by calling 800-228-6624. Passport holders are eligible win prizes, buy shop specials, attend preview parties, sign up for bus trips, and receive restaurant and hotel discounts.

Vroom Vroom


This weekend more than 6000 stock and custom-made hot rods will take over the Ohio Expo Center, 717 East 17th Avenue, as part of the Goodguys 10th Pittsburgh Paint & Glass Nationals. In addition to displays of thousands of hot rods, the event will feature vendor exhibits, a used auto parts swap, seminars and live entertainment.

The show takes place from 8 am to 5pm Friday and Saturday and from 8 am to 3 pm Sunday. The cost is $15 for adults, $6 for children ages 7-12 and free for children under age 6.

Westerville Music & Arts Festival


The Westerville Arts and Music Festival will showcase work from local and national artists this weekend in Heritage Park, 60 North Cleveland Avenue in Westerville.

The festival runs from 11 am to 7 pm Saturday and 11 am to 5 pm Sunday. Sponsored by the Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce, the festival also includes a youth art exhibit, heritage craft people demonstrating traditional crafts in period costumes, children’s activities, musical entertainment and a silent auction.

Buggin’ at Inniswood Park


Gigantic bugs will make an appearance this Saturday, July 14 at Inniswood Metro Garden, 940 South Hempstead Road in Westerville.

The huge wooden insects, created by artist David Rogers from hardwoods such as black walnut, red cedar and black locust, and from saplings from the willow family, can be found dotted through Inniswood’s ten themed gardens. All the insects are created using natural materials at a scale thousands times larger than what is found in nature. The insects take one to two months to create.

Jump for the Pointer Sisters!


Enjoy a blast from the past with the the high-energy Grammy Award winning Pointer Sisters at this Saturday July 7 Picnic with the Pops. The event takes place at 8:15 p.m. on the Chemical Abstracts Services Lawn, 2540 Olentangy River Rd. Gates open at 6pm.

Tickets are $22 at the gate. Children two and under are free.

Origins Int’l Game Expo


Hey game geeks! Enjoy board games, card games, role-playing, miniatures, classic games and more at the 33rd annual Origins International Game Expo held at the Columbus Convention Center, 400 N. High Street. The event includes 200-plus vendors, an art show featuring some of the best fantasy artists from through Ohio and around the world, and seminars with topics such as world history, game development and games in education. Although game-playing is 24 hours a day, games tend to be between 8 a.m. and Midnight. The Exhibit Hall is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday - Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Family Day will be held Sunday, July 1 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., when $25 gets a family of four into the Origins expo hall, art show and game halls. Plus, families receive a free $5 voucher good toward purchases at select expo hall vendors.

Tickets are $30 per day or $70 for entire show. Children nine and under are free with a parent/guardian.
